Ask a Question
Define spermiogenesis and spermiation.

1 Answer

Spermiogenesis is the final stage of spermatogenesis, during which the round spermatids differentiate into mature spermatozoa, a process that involves extensive morphological and biochemical changes. During spermiogenesis, the excess cytoplasm is shed and the nucleus elongates, condenses, and becomes densely packed with genetic material. The midpiece, tail, and acrosome also develop during this stage.

Spermiation, on the other hand, is the process by which mature spermatozoa are released from the Sertoli cells into the lumen of the seminiferous tubules, from where they are transported to the epididymis for further maturation and storage.
